Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to be sending you the draft action and decision-points of the 7th Stop TB Coordinating Board meeting, held in Beijing, China, 14-15 October 2004. We look forward to your feedback on the attached draft report by Monday 15 November. After this date we will take it you have no objections for the Secretariat to finalize the report and proceed on the action-steps.
Draft Report Board meeting 15 October 2004
Separate reports on the various break-out sessions (14 October), as well as the meeting on the Second Global Plan to Stop TB (16 October) and the mission to Henan province (11-13 October) are available with the Secretariat upon request.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the IUATLD on an excellent 35th World Conference on Lung health that closed yesterday. It is very encouraging to see how the TB community is rapidly growing and embracing broader health and development agenda's. The energy and enthusiasm was reflected in the discussions around patient-centred TB control, TB/HIV collaboration, public-private mix interventions. I am particularly pleased that several of the Working Groups held productive meetings and used the opportunity to work on joint agenda's with partners present at the Conference.
Specifically, I would like to highlight the visual presence of Communities affected by TB and HIV. I am very encouraged to hear their voice of wanting to be involved in the Stop TB Partnership and its governing and policy bodies, including the Partnership Coordinating Board, its seven Working Groups (DOTS Expansion, TB/HIV, DOTS-Plus, New Diagnostics, New Drugs, New Vaccines, and Advocacy & Communications). I had a productive meeting with a group of TB/HIV patients in Paris who requested active participation on the Core Groups and the Working Groups in order to help moving the TB agenda forward. I will contact separately the Chairs and Secretariat of the WGs with more information on this meeting and suggestions to engage the TB patients and the HIV community. In this regard, I would also like to draw your attention and opinions on the attached letter sent by HIV community participants who attended the 4th TBHIV Working Group meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 20-21 September 2004.
Strengthening HIV Community Involvement in the Fight Against TB and HIV
Thank you all for your continuous collaboration within the Stop TB Partnership,
Best wishes,
